Kathu district covers Phuket's central western coast, including the island's two most famous beach areas: Patong (the nightlife and tourism epicenter) and Kamala (its more refined, family-friendly neighbor). Short-term rental yields in Patong can reach 8–10% gross in peak season. Kathu town is the most affordable part of the west coast for permanent residents.
