Mueang Chiang Mai is the city's central district, encompassing the famous moated Old City (a 700-year-old walled square), the Nimmanhaemin (Nimman) trendy neighborhood, and the Chiang Mai University campus area. This is where most expats, digital nomads, and tourists spend their time — and where the densest concentration of cafes, coworking spaces, temples, and markets is found. Old City — Inside the moat. Temples on every corner (Wat Chedi Luang, Wat Phra Singh), guesthouses, art galleries, and the Sunday Walking Street market. Charming but can feel touristy. Affordable studios and guesthouses. Nimmanhaemin (Nimman) — The lifestyle hub. MAYA mall, One Nimman, hundreds of cafes and restaurants, coworking spaces (CAMP, Punspace). The most popular area for digital nomads. Modern condos, walkable grid layout. Chang Phueak / North of Old City — Local night food market (Chang Phueak Gate), more residential feel, slightly cheaper than Nimman. Mueang Chiang Mai is arguably the best district in Southeast Asia for digital nomads.
